“Penta water is some fine quality H2O. I originally thought it was cool because the water had my last name, but then I started having faster recoup times between my karate bouts and matches. Penta really does what it claims!”
As the Nation’s Junior Olympic Gold Medal Karate Champion, Anthony “A.J.” Penta is one determined young athlete. Back when he was a wee five year old, Anthony decided that karate was going to be “his thing.” Sure, to most five year olds, karate is cool, but his mom noticed that Anthony had a special sense about it. She took him to the Kyoshi Robert Herten of the Herten Family Okinawan Karate Institute in Totowa, New Jersey where he remained and excelled as a student for 11 years.
After many years’ worth of tournaments, A.J. rose in the Junior ranks and qualified to go to the American National Karate Championships in Salt Lake City. There, he won the Silver Medal for the advanced black belt division but it was almost disappointing. It wasn’t the Gold he wanted. Spurred on by his "just-miss" there he headed to the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Knoxville TN, where he won the Gold Medal, beating three-time National Champion and Reigning World Champion Medal winner, Matt Vaughn. He has also qualified for the World Tournament Circuit in 2003 with events to take place in Hawaii, Spain, Italy, Japan and Australia and possibly a first time every event in Russia. At the New Jersey Pre-State Tournament on December 8, 2002 A.J. won three gold medals in his age group. He was also bumped up to the 19-34 age group division where he won two bronze medals.
Asked about how he feels about his achievements, A.J. said, “The American National Karate Championship was the hardest event I’d ever been a part of. Only the best of the best were there. But now we’re all part of the same National Team now and we’ll be representing our country together, how cool is that?” Anthony Penta is currently a senior at Seton Hall Preparatory School in New Jersey with ambitions of studying film and cinematography in college. “I would like to be a fight scene coordinator and director, an American Jackie Chan, I suppose,” he said.
Penta water welcomes Anthony Penta as Penta water's first Pentathlete in the Karate sports category. We wish him the best as he ventures on to join the American National Team and the World Tournament Circuit. With a name and talent like A.J.'s, Penta water is proud to have him on board.
