“Extreme exertion and grueling hot sun go hand-in-hand in the sport of beach volleyball and proper hydration is critical for peak performance. Because Penta water is so pure, it hydrates me better than sports drinks that have stuff added to them. I don’t go a day without drinking at least 4 to 6 bottles of Penta.”
Some people call him “The Body,” many people call him “Fonoi,” and some simply say “E.” Eric Fonoimoana is dedicated to excellence in the sport of beach volleyball. Born in Torrance, CA and growing up in Hermosa Beach, Fonoimoana was always a surf and sand fanatic. After stelllar performances on both the Mira Costa High School and the University of California, Santa Barbara volleyball teams, Eric hit the sands of the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) tour in 1992 and by 1995 had earned his way into the top echelong of players on the AVP Tour. His first year of competing on the FIVP (Federation of International Volleyball) Tour with partner Dain Blanton, he won the Silver Medal in the FIVB Open in Klagenfurt, Austria.
In 1999, Eric and Dain began their intense pursuit to represent the US in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, crisscrossing and nation and the world to compete in the US Tour and in the FIVB World Tour. In August of 2000, they won the prestigious bronze medal in the FIVB Belgium Open that qualified them for the Olympics. Then, on September 26, 2000, they upset the Brazilian team to win and capture the Olympic gold medal for the USA.
2002 has started out with flying colors for Eric. On May 26th, 2002 he and his new partner, Dax Holdren, captured first place and the $125,000 prize in the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) Huntington Beach Open. When not training diligently for such big wins, Eric dedicates much of his time towards fund-raising for his own non-profit organization, the Dig for Kids foundation. Back to Penta People Index |
