“With all my years of experience in baseball, I’ve found that working behind the scenes can be just as stressful as playing the game. You need to keep your head clear and the team focused and you’re running around just as much between games doing community activities as you are on the field. I’ve found that Penta water helps keep the energy flowing and is just the right booster when I need a pick me up. Penta is with me all the time, whether I’m on or off the field.”

After 21 successful seasons as a baseball player for the Montreal Expos, the Chicago Cubs, the Boston Red Sox, and the Florida Marlins, Andre Dawson stepped into the role as Assistant to the General Manager of the Marlins in January 2000. In this role, he is responsible for scouting players, player evaluation and on-field instruction. Just as important, he is the team’s community ‘spokesperson’, representing and involving the team in community activities in his hometown of Miami.

Dawson’s outstanding career highlights include the 1987 National League MVP Award in his first season with Chicago where in also set career highs with 49 home runs and 137 RBI. He became the first player in MLB history to win the MVP Award while playing for a last place team. He finished second in voting for the 1981 MVP award. He is an eight-time National League All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner; ranks 10th all time in National League history with 1,476 RBI; ranks among the top 25 in MLB history in home runs (24th with 437), RBI (24th with 1,591) and at bats (22nd with 9,927). He became the 11th player in MLB history to hit 400 National League home runs when he homered off of Dave West in 1995 at Veterans Stadium. He hit a three-run home run in his next-to-last game at Pro Player Stadium in 1996 vs. Houston. His 437 career home runs are the most by a Florida native.

After a decade of stardom with Montreal, Dawson reached new heights with the Cubs. A free-swinging right-handed batter susceptible to being hit by pitches (he led or tied for the league lead four times), Dawson was a complete player with the Expos, outstanding at bat, in the field, and on the bases. On September 1985, he became the second player in major league history to hit two home runs in an inning twice in a career (having previously done it on July 1978). Dawson led NL outfielders in chances three straight seasons (1981-83). By 1986 he had signed with the Cubs and turned in an MVP season in 1987, leading the NL with 49 homers and 137 RBI. He was the first player on a last-place team ever to win the MVP. At the end of the 1990 season he stole his 300th base, making him a member of the exclusive 300/300 club. In 1995, he joined the Marlins, and spent the last two years of his professional career with his home team. Due to his popularity and leadership, he came back to the Marlins as Assistant to the General Manager in 1999.

Andre went to high school in Southwest Miami and is a graduate of Florida A&M University. His wife Vanessa and their children presently reside just outside of Miami. Following his 1987 season, the city of South Miami named a street in his honor - Andre Dawson Drive.
